Per-flow guarantees under class-based priority queueing

چکیده
In this paper, we present an admission control scheme which provides per-flow delay and bandwidth guarantees based solely upon simple class-based strict priority queue-ing. We derive basic properties of the worst-case behaviour in strict priority queueing systems using network calculus. Building upon these properties the flow admission control scheme is devised. The rationale behind this work is the appealing simplicity as well as the almost ubiquitous availability of strict priority queueing in today's routers and the thus promising applicability of our results for practical purposes in providing quality of service (QoS) in the Internet.

Proportional Delay Differentiation Employing the CBQ Service Discipline
The DiffServ architecture provides a scalable mechanism for QoS introduction in a TCP/IP network. The idea of DiffServ is based on the aggregation of traffic flows at an ingress (or egress) point of a network and the IP packet marking for different priority flows, according to several classification criteria. Two approaches exist in the DiffServ architecture: the absolute and the relative. In a...

Class-based traffic treatment frameworks such as Differentiated Service (DiffServ) have been proposed to resolve the poor scalability problem in the flow-based approach. Although the performance is differentiated in a class-based basis, the performance seen by individual flows in the same class may differ from that seen by the class and has not been well understood. We investigate this issue by...
متن کاملProportional delay differentiation provision by bandwidth adaptation of class-based queue scheduling
Supporting Quality of Service (QoS) over the Internet is a very important issue and many mechanisms have been already devised or are under way towards achieving this goal. One of the most important approaches is the so called Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture, which provides a scalable mechanism for QoS support in a TCP/IP network. The main concept underlying DiffServ is the aggre...

We propose a new service discipline, called the RateControlled Static-Priority (RCSP) queueing discipline, that can provide throughput, delay, delay jitter, and loss free guarantees in a connection-oriented packet-switching network. Previously proposed solutions are based on either a time-framing strategy, or a sorted priority queue mechanism. Time-framing schemes suffer from the dependencies t...
